Winter/Spring 2010 Update

The Sinop Regional Archaeological Project (SRAP) is entering into an exciting new phase of research.  This year we were awarded one of the six NEH Collaborative research awards to archaeology projects around the world.  This three-year grant will support the continuation of our field survey in this under-studied region.  Several of our long-term collaborators who began at Sinop as graduate students have recently obtained tenure-track positions, establishing a broad institutional base for our future work: Alexander Bauer (Queens College), Mark Besonen (Texas A&M), Ali Yaycioglu (Fairfield University), Aksel Casson (McGill).  Finally, last summer, Alex and Owen brought students from Queens and Cal State, Northridge, to Turkey for a pilot field school program, an experience we plan to build on in subsequent years.
